The SEDHCC with its vision of improving economic prosperity in the southeast area of Dallas decided since inception (2007 – 2008) that workforce development was a critical characteristic of this goal and a holistic approach to the area’s revitalization. The scholarship and awards fundraising dinner and reception was launched in spring 2008, and establishing the first cohort of students to begin their education at the Eastfield College Pleasant Grove Campus. The scholarship design was to improve retention by funding the student recipients until their graduation with a transfer to the university, an associate’s degree, or a workforce certification.
Since 2008, the scholarship has sponsored 125 students with an 87% graduation rate: 110 students have graduated; 7 students have dropped out; and, there are currently 10 students in the pipeline. Thanks to our corporate and business sponsors, the fundraising has been very successful raising a total of $94, 314.00 over a 9-year period. This has made the SEDHCC Scholarship & Awards Dinner the most successful signature event!
This next awards dinner and ceremony set in early fall promises to be the best event yet, celebrating the SEDHCC’s 10th Anniversary. The Board of Directors are excited to reach this great feat with the scholarship and awards fundraising dinner, and have begun planning this great event with much enthusiasm. We are currently enlisting our benevolent corporate and business partners to join us in celebrating this great accomplishment with our students, families and members.
More information on the 10th Anniversary of the Scholarship and Awards Dinner will be forthcoming on our social media, website and general email. Thank you for supporting the southeast Dallas students and the Pleasant Grove community!
